Software Engineer

The Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, modernization, testing, implementation, and ongoing support of The Picas Group's ERP software platform. This role plays a key part in the company's multi-year ERP modernization initiative by converting legacy ERP functionality into modern web-based applications within the Picas.Next platform.

Working collaboratively with Product Management, Consulting, Support, and customers, this position analyzes business processes, develops scalable software solutions, resolves complex technical issues, and delivers enhancements that improve the customer experience across multiple ERP modules. While experience with accounting or financial systems is highly valued, this role may support a variety of business applications including inventory, purchasing, sales, production, logistics, and finance based on business needs.

This position requires strong software development skills, business process analysis, ERP application experience, and the ability to bridge technical development with real-world customer workflows.

Job Responsibilities

May include but are not limited to:
Software Development & Support
  • Develop, test, and deploy software enhancements and bug fixes within the Picas ERP platform.
  • Participate in the modernization of legacy applications into web and mobile technologies.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including weekly standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Perform peer code reviews and assist with testing other developers' work.
  • Assist in software design, architecture discussions, and technical planning.
  • Develop, maintain, and support software solutions across the Picas ERP platform, including but not limited to:
    • Financial Management
    • Purchasing
    • Inventory
    • Sales & Order Management
    • Production & Crop Management
    • Logistics & Shipping
    • Reporting & Analytics
    • Data Integrations
    • Import/Export Utilities
  • Provide technical support for complex issues escalated by the Support and Consulting teams.
  • Participate in team on-call after-hours support rotation upon manager approval
  • Distinguish between software defects, configuration issues, and business process questions.
  • Communicate technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Build trusted relationships with customers by providing exceptional technical expertise and service.
ERP Modernization & Product Conversion

Serve as a key contributor to The Picas Group's strategic ERP modernization initiative by converting legacy ERP modules into the next-generation Picas.Next platform.

  • Assist in the technical conversion of assigned ERP modules into the Picas.Next application.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Consulting, Support, and customers to define business requirements and validate new functionality.
  • Evaluate existing workflows and recommend improvements that enhance usability, efficiency, and customer experience rather than simply replicating legacy functionality.
  • Identify process improvements, software enhancements, and opportunities to simplify user workflows.
  • Create technical documentation, testing scenarios, and functional specifications to support successful product releases.
  • Ensure converted applications meet quality, performance, and usability expectations before production deployment.
  • Opportunities to use AI to assist with the modernization and monotonous tasks

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Accounting Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of software development experience.
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
  • Experience with accounting or financial software is strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing or supporting ERP software preferred.
  • Familiarity with horticulture, manufacturing, or industrial automation domains is a plus.
